pixie dresses.
2024 · nine diptychs

Carelessly discarded plastic bags get caught in barbed wire and chain-link fences on the edges of villages and towns. Wind and weather wear them down until only scraps are left.

Against the light, these scraps turn translucent. Stretched and weathered, they are thin as wings, as lace, as dresses dancing in the wind.

Caught in the wire, this plastic has almost the presence of a figure. Yet it is waste, usually an eyesore at the roadside. Only through the photographer's eye does it become something else.

And just as the plastic bags become fairy dresses, the crumpling of the image turns the photograph into almost a sculpture, whose structure recalls the fairy dresses.
